The First Ever Braille Edition
That morning, we both were so determined
About our destination
To be part of an election
Be part of doing something right
For the first time in forever
They’d have the information
In a format you could read it
Felt like a turning of the tide
But getting out hands on the first ever braille edition
Of the election information
Would be a bit of a wild mission
We seek to learn
We learn to know
Sometimes we learn
That there’s a long way to go
On my way to get you, I stopped at my home precinct
To find out if they had it
They had to ask a bunch of people, somebody found it in the back
And printed on the cover, it said part one of two
They dug around some more, they couldn’t find the other half
Getting our hands on the first ever braille edition…
We met up, and headed to another
Only to discover, that they had the second volume, but they didn’t have the first
By the third place they expected us
Apologized while telling us, they also had just half of it
From there it just got worse
Getting our hands on the first ever braille edition…

In the end, we’d tried six places, and they all were incomplete
Is it really that accessible if it’s half of what you need
That night we watched the news and we sank into our chairs
Our winding afternoon where we trekked through David square
Felt like it must have been a clue that the change we thought was there
Was way further than we thought
